Where to find Critical Games:
Picture
Path of Arkus was going to be Critical Games second game, development beginning shortly after the release of Path of Thanatos. The title merged concepts from the RPG and Metroidvania genres, and featured an intriguing Sci-Fi storyline about two different characters in the same place but in vastly different times.

The first of these characters was Arkus - an old Acharnae warrior tasked with protecting a dangerous cargo on a desolate planet. Not only is he the title character, but he is the green-skinned character that can be seen in most of the above images.

The second character was a human boy, whose friend Serena stumbled upon the ruins of an ancient Alien spaceship buried in the Idalian Forest. After entering the wreckage, the two become trapped and separated. Without any choice and desperate to escape, they head deeper into the bowls of the vessel...

As you can see, the player would have explored the vessel in the Past when it was whole and intact, and then in the Present where it is ruined and decaying. The Past sections had more of an RPG feel to them (there was a heavier emphasis on plot and combat), while the Present sections were more about exploration and the use of items to clear obstacles (like in a Metroidvania game).

As you can see in the screen shots, the game was still a ways off completion, however it was a promising project - so much so that I actually posted a tease for the game on the old Critical Games website. I have made sure not to make that mistake again. Unfortunately, due to a range of factors, the project ended up unfinished.

I thought someone might find it interesting, so I decided to give it it's own page.
